The Hand That Weaved The First Knot

How It All Began...

Sayyid Hossein Raouf Qotboddini began his journey to the endless realm of hand-knotted rugs in early 1940s. Years of searching in bazaars of Mashhad availed him a lifetime of expertise.

In a manner that he could grasp what lied beyond the knots and amid the singularity and sanctuary of the medallions in a glance; and no flaw could avoid his sight.

Was known among the Persian Jews and "Qotbi" was what foreigner merchants would ascribe to the kind of rug he favored; for they knew he was not after fortune in this business but regarded it as an opportunity to flow in art and originality of Iran.

It was evident that he appreciated a rug in which the colors glowed and the design reflected perfection as the warps carried the soul of the weaver eternally. Hence, as long as the rug was "Qotbi", it would be traded blindfoldly.

Love for rugs was the legacy he left for his children to be passed through generations and become a craving to befree the Persian rug from neglect.

After eight decades of getting winded, hoping to lift the rug market of Iran to heights again, Qotb Rugs is still upon the loom, collecting and presenting antique-original Iranian hand-knotted rugs.
